GBIF Data Source
Lifemapper receives species information from the data warehouse maintained by the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF, http://www.gbif.org). GBIF aggregates species occurrence data from museum data providers, and from taxonomic discipline and species observation networks. Statistics about GBIF providers can be found here. This group of statistics is updated each time we update our copy of the GBIF database (approximately monthly).

Lifemapper Database Statistics
These statistics reflect the current holdings of species occurrence data in the Lifemapper (LM) database. Organism data in LM are primarily organized by species, but some of the occurrence sets are labeled to genus or other taxonomic level.
| Number of Species | 919,890 | Total number of species in the Lifemapper database. This is also the number of species in the most current GBIF database copy which have at least one georeferenced occurrence record. |
|---|---|---|
| Number of Species Modeled | 109,987 | Total number of species for which Lifemapper has computed environmental niche models. |
| Number of Species in the Model Queue | 3,627 | Number of species in Lifemapper queued to be modeled which have 50 or more georeferenced points. |
| Number of Species with Too Few Points to be Modeled | 806,276 | Total number of species in Lifemapper that have fewer than 50 occurrence points, the minimum threshold for computing models. |
| Number of Species in Pre-Processing | 0 | Number of species in Lifemapper with new occurrence data. These data points will be analyzed and assembled into occurrence sets. Those with 50 or more georeferenced points will be moved to the model queue. |
